June 29, 2018. Famous traveler Matvei Shparo and biologist Ivan Smirnov, Teacher of the Year 2017, visited GC RAS. The visitors discussed the results of the Great Arctic Expedition and prospects for cooperation with GC RAS on geophysical monitoring in the northern latitudes.

The Great Arctic Expedition is a unique project, which was held for the jubilee 10th time in 2018. The project is supported by the Department of Education of Moscow and unites schoolchildren to participate in the most difficult expedition to the North Pole. The group led by the director of the Moscow center "Laboratory of travel" Matvei Shparo will pass the distance of 100 km on skis to the North Pole, and the group "Barneo" under the leadership of Ivan Smirnov will remain on the drifting station for scientific research. To participate in the project, schoolchildren undergo rigorous selection and out of a thousand applicants, only the 14 bravest and talented children will join the expedition.

July 11, 2018. Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, V. A. Petrov, head of the Geoinformatics Laboratory of IGEM RAS, visited GC RAS. The purpose of the visit was to participate in a working meeting in which A. Gvishiani, Director of the Geophysical Center, A. Soloviev, Deputy Director for Science, A. Rybkina, Deputy Director for Development, and researcher A. Odintsova participated.

July 6-10, 2018. Scientists of the Laboratory of Geoinformatics and Geomagnetic Studies D. V. Peregudov and M. N. Dobrovolsky took part in the joint event – the 26th Extended European Cosmic Ray Symposium and 35th Russian Cosmic Ray Conference. The event was held at the Altai State University (Barnaul, Russia).

July 2-4, 2018. Leading engineer of the Laboratory of Geoinformatics and Geomagnetic Studies of GC RAS A. Grudnev visited "Klimovskaya" observatory (Arkhangelsk region, Klimovskaya village). The main goal of the expedition is to carry out routine preventive works aimed at maintaining the working capacity of geomagnetic equipment, including a scalar magnetometer.

July 4, 2018. Two international scientific organizations - the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC) have united in a new union - the International Science Council (ISC). GC RAS represents the interests of Russia in the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), now part of the ISC. IUGG General Secretary Alik T. Ismail-Zade was elected as the chief secretary of the newly formed Council.
